I used to be a Republican,voted for Reagan,etc, but then the GOP went nuts with right wing populism. Hatred of immigrants, gays, Muslims, etc became the the belief. I don’t especially like Democrats with their woke business, but the Republicans are now toxic. I did not leave the GOP. It left me.

I will NEVER vote straight ticket. I will always research each candidate and try to make an educated, prudential decision of the best, or at least least worst choice.
I guess I’m fortunate that in my districts, there aren’t many candidates modeled after Trump. For each position, whether I voted for the Republican or the Democrat candidate, I really tried to figure out the the less worse choice. I wish I could say “better choice,” but I’m struggling to think of any of the positions where I felt like I had found a genuinely good choice.
And absolutely no way, can I possibly vote for either Harris or Trump.
I do agree, by the way, with what Will said: I did not leave the GOP. It left me. I wish the Democrat party could see the opportunity to gain support for their candidates by at least softening their stance on the issues that make it most difficult to vote for them, but instead they have chosen to entrench and further polarize.
Two points: Dems have historically presided over huge drops in the abortion rate, with Obama bring it to its lowest point in history. That’s because poverty is the #1 abortifacient and Dems attack poverty. The GOP attacks the poor. That’s why Trump raised abortion rates 8%, as well as killing a million by screwing up pandemic response.
Secondly, Trump will atttempt to steal the election, with the help of his party in Congress, so down ballot votes matter.
You cannot support a “lesser evil” but you can and must vote to *lessen* evil. By that metric, voting Dem is perfectly sound, but there is no excuse whatsoever for voting Trump. And since the steal will certainly be attempted, a vote for a third party is a vote to help Trump since the narrower the margin in the popular vote, the more plausible the steal gets.

I have never felt so conflicted as I filled in that little bubble for Kamala. I had to remind myself how both the Republican and Democrat party have presided over the looting and conning of the middle class for decades. The overwhelming evidence is that this looting and conning of families was overwhelmingly presided over by the “Party of Life”.
Our young people are giving up on the idea that they can have children of their own. They can barely feed and house themselves even as supposedly “high” income earners.
You’re so right Mark. Every time I encounter one of these pro-life Trumpers, I ask them: “who’s going to adopt the black kids?” You should see the blank stares I get.

Great Replacement is not at all a new piece of ideology. Going back at least 30 years and probably far longer it was standard fare among hardcore white supremacy movements. I learned it in some depth in hate group tracts and websites, some of which were unfortunately Nordic Pagan themed and some of which were just generically neo-Nazi or anti-Semitic.
What’s new under MAGA is that these ideas are now completely out in the open and mainstream in American society.
