Studies have shown that FOX makes its viewers dumber and more ignorant. The 3/4 of a billion dollar lawsuit they settled with Dominion over their brazen lies about the 2020 election settles that point pretty well. But they don’t just vend stupid Big Lie. Far more than this, they emit an endless drip drip drip of little lies that make their viewers stupid about everything.
Exhibit A:
Is the massive cringe here the backward Vulcan salute done for the benefit of your racist uncle who is oblivious to its Jewish origins in Leonard Nimoy’s childhood synagogue? Is it the absurd claim that fleeing Star Wars for the good old days of ST:TOS will provide your racist uncle refuge from being awakened by the dreaded “woke mob” (meaning all people knowledgable of history and capable of empathy)? Is it the staggering ignorance of the fact that the entire Star Trek franchise has, for nearly 60 years, been so aggressively “woke” that only a FOX talking hairdo and his audience could not know it?
I say, “Why choose?” It’s all these things and so much more. Because the entire purpose of FOX is to make a population ignorant, stone cold to the virtues of empathy and education, malleable to the will of authoritarian liars, and filled with contempt for those who used their brains or their hearts for anything but devotion and obedience to such tyrants. That is work that depends far more on the steady drip of small lies than on some sudden blast of Big Ones.
