On the Claim that Technology is “Neutral”

One of the most remarkable things about the MAGA cult is the way it whipsaws between being stampeded by every bullshit Panic du Jour its masters tell it to fear and the way it constantly blusters and threatens the world that it is filled with Tough Guys Who Aren’t Afraid of Anything.

Leviticus warns those who are faithless to the covenant they have made with God “As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.” (Leviticus 26:36). The MAGA cult, utterly faithless to God and devoted People of the Lie, pretend to be brave while living in fear of nothing at all (DRONES! INVADERS! VACCINES!), because they have opened their souls to an orange false god who is a moral vacuum and filled them with Nothing at All.

Recently, Gun Cult MAGA culitsts, panicking over nothing, followed the lead of their violent, fearful orange messiah moron who urged every moron in the Cult to start firing at any and every light in the sky.

Naturally, JD Vance struck the pose of Courage in the Face of Nothing:

Fun fact: any bullet not fired straight up (and most are not) has a high likelihood of hitting whatever or whoever it hits with sufficient velocity to kill.

Another fun fact: shooting down aircraft mistaken for a drone has an even higher likelihood of killing everyone on board as well as whatever people on the ground the aircraft hits.

But sure, tough guys: kill the aliens and show us what you’re made of.

The same people who continually deploy their steel phalluses to enhance their manhood also continually lie that the technology they fetishize is “spiritually neutral”:

The same liars who lie that guns don’t kill people also lie that vaccines do nothing but kill people. The same lazy imbeciles who believe and parrot their lies also believe that refusal to be educated confers mystical spiritual “wisdom” on them that is denied the people who did the hard work of getting an education about things like gun and vaccine mortality rates.

The gospel reminds us that smart, wise, and good people can still be smart, wise, and good even when they are denied the good fortune of an education. It has absolutely nothing to say in praise of wilful morons too lazy to bother learning anything and too filled with pride to admit they are wilful morons.

Meanwhile, a reader notices the very thing that gives the lie to the claim that guns are simply morally neutral tools and that absolutely everything moral or immoral about guns pertains simply, solely, and only to the user. Remarking on the Gun Cult High Priest JD Vance posing with his gigantic steel phallus as a Pinup Girl for Cultists itching to shoot down any and every light in the sky, my reader remarked:

“This meme suggest a lot more than the Gun Rights community probably wanted to.. They argue that they are armed just in case they need the weapons, but here they are strongly suggesting they are really just waiting for an opportunity to use them.”

Exactamundo. Talking about technology as “morally neutral” is an idiotic lie because technology exerts pressure on us and changes us, just as other environmental factors do. It place in our hands opportunities and affords us temptations which would otherwise never occur to us. Guns afford (depending on one’s personality and situation) everything from the hope of food, to the temptation for insecure losers to Show those Sons of Bitches, to the allure of sexual fulfillment for the Ammosexual. And that’s just scratching the surface of what technology does to us. From clothes to makeup to money to photography to computers to nuclear weapons to any other thing you can think of, technology is not neutral: it profoundly influences and affects the very wiring of our brains. That’s why the same liars who say “Guns don’t kill people” and demand guns be easily available to every violent cretin in America do not advocate nukes be easily available to all. Nor do they preach, “If we take away nukes, ISIS will still use a rock to kill as Cain killed Abel.”

And it’s why the same people who endlessly lie that technology for doing violence is “neutral” never lie that technology for sins they disapprove of (typically sexual ones) is “neutral”. Films, books, video games, music, contraceptives, abortifacients: none of these are dismissed as “morally neutral” by the “guns don’t kill people” gun fetishists when it comes to their urge to control the sex drives of other people. Nor indeed, do the gun fetishists treat their own guns as “morally neutral”. They are as addicted to them as Gollum is to the Ring. That’s why they erupt in squeals of rage and panic at the thought of losing their steel heroin after every giant massace in America. Every time there is a school slaughter, the fetishist never says, “If we have to repeal the second amendment or I have to give up my gun to stop this nightmare, I’m fine with that. Guns don’t really matter to me” and always, always, always begins and ends with “DON’T BLAME ME! DON’T TOUCH MY GUN!” followed by one sovereign cry: “MOAR GUNS WILL FIX IT!”

In THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Pippin is given an Elvish brooch by Galadriel and he prizes it highly. But when need dictates, he casts it away in the hope that rescuers might find it and find his trail thereby after he is kidnapped by orcs. Later he tells Aragorn:

“It was a wrench to let it go; but what else could I do?” “Nothing else,” answered Aragorn. “One who cannot cast away a treasure at need is in fetters.”

The absolute surest proof that the Gun Cult is a pack of brainwashed liars when they prattle about the “moral neutrality” of their guns is that they would rather every child in the US die or be disabled than consider for one second loosing their grip on their allegedly “neutral” fetish. They cherish their fetters.

Guns are not “neutral” to the Gun Cult. They are the One Ring: and the Cult are Gollum.
