Everybody hates the word “heresy” until they get a really good look at just how deadly and toxic false Christian teaching can be.
There’s a real difference between breathing ozone or O2, drinking water or hydrogen peroxide.
One crude human instinct is to sacralize the Big. Space is big, so lots of people attribute to The Universe what is properly God’s. Lots of Big Stuff gets sacralized this way, and Big Power is one of the things we have always been tempted to sacralize. That’s why kings tended to become gods in antiquity and why (after the rise of monotheism made that impossible) they still tended to fill quasi-sacral roles.
With the demise of monarchy the instinct to sacralize Big remains. And the degenerate pagan thing that is the MAGA cult is now giving free rein to that instinct in their fealty to a dimestore antichrist promising them Heaven on Earth with the extra bonus of being able to be as selfish and cruel to those they hate as they want.
How free a rein you ask?
One of the more incredible things about this incredible cult is that they have managed to turn the outrageous and utterly impenitent sins of their god into proof of his holiness. Rapist? So was David! So there you are!

One of the favorite lies of the MAGA cult is that you can manufacture the lie that Trump is God’s Anointed One as long as being “anointed” means being a rapist like King David, a liar like Jacob, a coward like Peter, a prostitute like Rahab, a persecutor like Saul of Tarsus, and a murderer like Moses.
The sins of the saints, unrepented (as all of Trump’s sins are according to him) can damn us. The filthy lie that being a sinner like the saints makes the impenitent Trump a saint (or perhaps even more) is something so disgusting only a pious MAGA liar can make himself believe it.
Advent is, among other things, a good time for repenting aiding and abetting one of the most spiritually and physically deadly theo-political cults in history.

MAGA is a cult. The members regard Trump as some sort of junior varsity messiah. They seem to believe that he is God’s anointed one and possesses some wisdom that the rest of us lack.
For people to have such reverence for an obvious carnival barker and con artist is breathtaking. Right wing Catholics and Evangelicals typically revere him. When will the fever break?
No sane person would compare our Lord to Donald Trump. Trump himself, thanks God for saving his life! He is well aware of his ‘sins’, as should the rest of us!

Hitler likewise thanked Divine Providence for saving his life. So what? Every narcissistic sociopath in the world love to brag of being the specially protected object of God’s favor. Yesterday I was talking to one of my favorite teachers in our faculty lounge. She’s one of those free spirit types that one assumes is a liberal hippy given the way she looks and behaves.
She fessed up that she voted for Trump. I stood and stared at her for a long moment and then asked if she could explain to me why. She replied that Kamala has a grating voice, and seems to be on drugs, (I agreed)but the number one reason is because Trump promised not to tax social security like Biden does.
She shrugged when I said “Trump is a bully…”
I have to smile at the schlemiels in fly over country who voted for Trump. The upcoming tax cuts will help the billionaires and Uber rich, but do little or nothing for the working class. The MAGA crowd has been bamboozled and they don’t even know it.
