MAGA tilts more and more Fascist. Much of the Religious Right appears to be fine with this. One thing that really annoys me is when people in the media, usually pretty, perky reporterettes refer to right wing, quasi Fascists as “conservatives.” They are anything but conservative.
Point of order / bit of advice. I wash people would just stop with the “fascist” label. Even when they are right, no one is listening anymore. In fact, it shuts off the ears. The problem is that since at least the late 60s when the hippies started calling everything and everyone they disagreed with “fascist,” and their progressive successors have learned the habit. It is almost 60 years of crying wolf. And now that the wolf is not only at the door, but in the house, no one is listening.
Don’t get me wrong. Trump is a fascist by every definition of the word. If he were a bit smarter, he’d be truly dangerous. The problem is that every time you call him a fascist, 95% of people stop listening. They don’t even stick around long enough to examine the evidence.
Can we find a new word? Please? One that people will actually listen to?
And just to flip the coin: You conservatives do the same thing with “socialism.” 95% of the time when you call something “socialist,” it’s blatantly obvious you don’t even understand what the word means.
Yes, I’ve noticed. If you are not in favor of additional tax cuts for billionaires,you are a “socialist.”
Trump and his billionaire buddies even refer to conservative Republicans as socialist if they do not favor additional tax cuts for the ultra rich.
Speaking of “Fascists” I was watching a documentary about WW2. They had film footage of Benito Mussolini bloviating. It reminded me a little of Trump. Duce! Duce!
Eugenics was not invented in USA, but it was already a thing in the 19th century and it was very much fashionable. Americans embraced it quite happily, but it was first held back by Christianity and then fell out of fashion following WWII because it smelled too much like what the Germans were doing.
But it was never abandoned.
• Planned Parenthood openly aimed to cull the Black population by promoting abortion among them, and disavowed those early years.
• But euthanasia faced no such problems when the idea started to be spread by pioneers like Kevorkian.
• IVF/FIVET completely dispenses with any niceties and all assisted procreation performs selections on fertilized zygotes before transfer.
• Selective abortions of births with potential congenital defects is rampant.
These were all Left talking points for years, and now the Right is embracing them and extending them beyond the invisible walls of clinics and unto very visible living humans.
And I absolutely agree that the Right is completely disingenuous about being pro-life, it’s just a means to an end, and they don’t really mean it:

The Left at least has their hearts in the right place. It is much harder to see a fetus as a real human and it is understandable to grant somebody that doesn’t want to continue living the option to end their life. At least it stems from some sort of compassion and can be understood and there is a chance to at least try to correct it.
But failing to see another human, standing right next to you, as anything but a human and to consider anyone inferior for any reason is just as evil as what Nazis did.
And the US Govt. won’t stop at anything now. The plan for pushing eugenics was delayed for 80 years and they need to make up for it as quickly as possible.

Your German expression, lebens unwertesleben, doesn’t make sense to me. It literally means “life’s unworthy life,” Since Lebens is the genitive form of Leben. I think you meant to write “lebensunwertes Leben,” which means “life unworthy of life.” (“lebensunwertes” is an adjective meaning “unworthy of life.”)

I appreciated your phrase about those who really worship “Christian esthetics.” I love the beauty of the Latin liturgy, and the Catholic Church’s patrimony of Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony — I have spent the last 30 years singing in a choir dedicated to that music. But I also know that many who are equally dedicated to this tradition have, in fact, made a religion of the esthetics and observances, and are deaf to the gospel. I prefer a congregation of atheists who come to hear the music, than a congregation of religious hypocrites straining at gnats and swallowing camels. At least the atheists are honest.
When we told our Protestant friends that we were convinced we had to become Catholics, some told us that we were just drawn to the ‘bells and smells.’ We attend a very normal and not very formal parish – though, indeed, they do ring the bell at consecration.
We became Catholics because we believe the Church is Christ’s full presence in the world. I would, indeed, appreciate some improvement in the music 🙂
