It’s become amusing after a mass shooting to hear Republicans prattle about their “thoughts and prayers” for the victims. This is code to the NRA that they will do nothing relevant to any gun control.
The principal of the Catholic school I worked at wrote a letter to the parents of the student body in which she literally used the words “thoughts and prayers” as well as stating that a school shooting is against our Catholic morals. I almost fell out of my chair when I read that.

I am amazed that the NRA wants silencers to be legal. Silencers? Hunters and sportsmen do not use silencers. Gangsters use silencers. I wish the NRA would explain their position.
Actually from what I can tell the main reason silencers were banned had more to do with concerns about poaching than organized crime.
And they’re actually not banned. You just have to pay a $200 federal tax and a separate background check. One or two states ban them separately.
Silencers work with pistols,which fire subsonic ammunition. Rifles firing supersonic ammunition (greater than 1,000 feet per second), are difficult to silence. You don’t go hunting deer with a 9mm pistol. Nor ducks either. Silencers should be banned.
Quite true that silencers will not make rifles silent.
They do make the noise a lot less brutal though. That’s why the army is making them standard on the new XM-7 rifle.

But either way silencers aren’t a significant factor in mass casualty events. These people aren’t trying to conceal their crimes.
True. Mass shooters want to call attention to themselves, whereas gangsters often want to operate quietly to avoid the police.
The 2nd Amendment is actually about states rights. That being the states having a militia or today’s national guard as a counterweight to a standing Federal Army. It does not call for psychotics to have assault rifles.
I think there is a good historical argument in favor of 2A as states rights, but the Supreme Court has very explicitly held it to be an individual right unconnected from militia service.
The question for the foreseeable future is how can we effectively regulate within that framework?
The courts say there is room for that but give very little and inconsistent guidance.
