So a few days ago, some protesters invaded a church service at a MAGA church pastored by a ICE thug:
I have no particular moral or legal qualms with protestors targeting MAGA Churches. If they are MAGA churches they are enemies of Christ and deserve to hear prophetic words spoken against them, since they are only hearing lies from their shepherds.
My one and only question about the deployment of such tactics is, “Will they achieve the desired effect of moving Americans toward justice or will they play into the hands of the Regime and help them instead?”
I don’t know the answer to that. But my guess is that this will be counter-productive in moving opinion against the Regime. It will read to most people like the same sort of self-indulgence as the obnoxious kids who threw paint on great works of art for whatever it was they were protesting. It tends to make the protester, not the Cause, the center. More narcissism does not help defeat a threat that is fundamentally narcissistic.
All that said, I feel nothing but nausea as this cosplay martyr pretends he has courage while turning a blind eye to ICE raids on churches across the country and his fellow bishops warning their flocks not to attend Mass due to the danger he and his evil MAGA cult pose.

The biggest threat to religious liberty on US soil is not a handful of protesters disrupting a Klan meeting masquerading as worship and pastored by a MAGA orc. It is the millions of conservative MAGA Christians cheering as millions of their fellow Christians are targeted for beatings, kidnapping, and murder while bishops like Robert Barron provide aid and comfort to the persecutors and pretend they are victims.

MAGA people are not”conservatives.” They are right wing. They are not the same. A true conservative upholds the Constitution and does not espouse Fascist principles of dictatorship.
I wish the media would stop referring to MAGA as conservative. MAGA is Fascist. Mussolini was not a conservative.
No true Scotsman.
Look up and down and across USA.
It’s not about letting conservatives off the hook, but it’s an important distinction.
Conservatism, in the classic sense, is a philosophy of government which favors strong institutions, market forces over big government, traditional societal roles and hierarchies, traditional religion etc.
A lot of those things have always overlapped the right wing of politics, but MAGA is not conservative in any sense of the word. They are nihilists who happen to adhere to far-right ideology. They believe in chaos and criminality and massive state surveillance, a state directed economy which picks winners and losers primarily according to political loyalty. They have no respect for private property at all. They are very big on having a police state, but not rule of law. To the MAGA nihilists, the law is not something you have to follow. It’s a weapon for targeting political and cultural enemies.
The whole left/right classification breaks down when it comes to MAGA. That movement bears far more resemblance to the ideals and methods of Stalinist communism than to Winston Churchill, Margret Thatcher or Ronald Reagan.
There is much to criticize within traditional conservatism, but MAGA is a different species altogether.
The reason the media, and Normies, call them Conservative is because they call themselves Conservative. And go on to contrast themselves with the Lunatic Leftist Radical so forth so on. If they have disgraced Conservatives who refuse to differentiate from them, that’s a Conservative problem.
The true conservatives should call out the right wing Fascists who claim to be “conservative.”
I have a Church friend, a very Conservative guy (though he would never, ever vote for Trump, b/c the man himself is revolting). I remember him quoting some Conservative American bishop, the bishop thought he might be arrested for the Faith, and his successor bishop might be martyred. This, of course, would be the act of the wicked Liberals.
The bitter irony is, that if anybody is going to put Catholics in prison for the Faith, it’s going to be the shock troop arm of the MAGA “Christian” Nationalists, who hate real Christians as completely as Nero or Diocletian.
I wrote this here on May 9th:
Apparently Cardinal Francis (!) George (!) (of Chicago!) was a prophet. As there are no coincidences, I’ll note that George was the baptismal name of Pope Francis.
Culture warriors love this quote of his:
“I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.”
Card. George indeed died in his bed in 2015.
His successor, Card. Blase Cupich, advocates for consistent life ethic and is an ardent supporter of Pope Francis’s vision for the Church. If Cardinal George’s words turn out prophetic and Cardinal Cupich ends up incarcerated, it will be entirely because Christian Nationalists put him in prison, not the cultural enemies of the Church.
As a side note, Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago and spent his childhood just south of Chicago. I think there is something about that city and we’ll hear a lot more about it in the coming years.
There are real Christians being persecuted in USA. Look at Minnesota. They were real Christians, out there living their faith, in the face of brutal government terror and oppression, in freezing cold and for days.
It takes serious courage, and serious faith to do what the people of Minnesota did.
To dismiss all of that, and make this token act of farce as the poster of “Christian oppression’? That seems almost like something bishop Barron will do
