Well worth listening indeed!
I am ta loss trying to understand what happened to Bsp Barron but it seems to have started when he visited the seismic SSPX school shortly after arriving in MN. He opened his talk by identifying himself as their bishop. Would it be too hard to imagine him on stage today with Trump and Vigàno?
Only God knows his motives but I suspect ambition plays a role.
How sobering –and not just about Bishop Barron. We should all feel chastened. There is a very dark root that dwells in most of us which encourages us to believe that we are better than the poor, and disenfranchised–that we have somehow earned the right not to be in that category.
A number of years ago someone made an off the cuff remark about Bishop Barron and his grand ego. I was startled, as it was *not* in the character of my friend to say such things. Not at all. What gave it troubling weight was that he has spent many, many hours with him. I didn’t know what to make of it at the time.
In my youth, I recognized that the dark root in my soul was certainly there, and offending God. I pleaded with Him to cure me of it. I fear that it’s a life long struggle not to write people off, or dismiss them as irrelevant to our own lives.
Most of my extended family–all Catholic–are cheering Trump on. One of my children has MAGA friends and hangs out with an older MAGA cousin whom he looks up to. When my daughter sent a message to our group chat yesterday, that ICE was spotted outside of her predominantly Hispanic school, her brother posted a picture of an alien. He laughed it off, even though he is the most “foreign” looking kid of mine. I told him so later but he waved me away. My two daughters are called “liberals” amongst their cousins and even brothers. I fear for all of them because they are divided and looking down upon each other. I’m constantly reminding them that NONE of this is of Jesus–and yes some of them are really angry at the Church. Thank God Francis and Leo are giving them an alternate view; but it’s not enough to make them feel that the Church is an institution that they admire. The association is repugnant. It’s very concerning, and absolutely standing in the way of their faith.
Feet of clay. Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
Barron is but one in a long line – Corapi, Altman, Vigano, Raymond Burke….
He was more polished, but his naked ambition and politics was obvious to colored people for a long time – by what he chose to criticize and more importantly, on what he chose to be silent on.
He wants to be pope. He will sell his soul to be a Cardinal. Here’s to hoping he retires bishop of Hicksville.
