One of the reasons I am most proud of the Resistance is that it displays a real moral conscience. The first and last instinct of the MAGA orcs and their theological false prophets is violence.
They beat,
kidnap,
grab,
teargas and terrorize children,
rape and extort,
and murder
first and only ask questions later–releasing their falsely arrested prey days, weeks, or months later and fighting to maintain the lie that their victims had it coming.
The Resistance, even in the face of these brutal thugs, agonizes over extremely trivial impulses to retaliate: should we ice sidewalks outside ICE facilities to slow these orcs down as they head off for another day of tear gassing children? What is the morality of tossing water balloons at Nazis? Is making fun of Bovino being short a mockery of all little people? What are the ethics of mocking Trump’s dementia when he has made a career of mocking the disabled? What are the ethics of making rucks at a Klan rally that masquerades as a church? Is it mean to laugh at Melania’s stupid biopic without even seeing it?
I have seen or participated in discussions of all this a lot more and have sometimes even had my mind changed (you can probably tell where I stand on at least some of this).
But here’s the thing: All this handwringing, while sometimes irritating, bespeaks hearts of gold. There is a ton of genuine moral concern in the Resistance for not simply descending into eye-for-an-eye, One-Ring-grabbing, let-us-do-evil-that-good-may-come-of-it morals.
And that makes me proud of the Resistance. It is a real expression of love for enemies. And I believe God will reward it.

I remember as a kid being utterly baffled as to how everyday German people could fall for Hitler. I’m not baffled anymore. I’m seeing it on the news every night. The enemies of liberty are not coming to the USA, people. They’re here. They are masked. They are armed. And their idol sits in the highest seat of power.
