Mark, I need some advice/help. I have daughters who are lovely women but they are excoriating me over voting for Harris, even now. Even after all the hatred and active undermining the pro life movement that Trump/Vance do. I sent them a Catholic Answers piece (not my fave group for sure, but they like them) and this only made them more vehement that “they love me but will never agree” . My prolife activism goes back to literally to when I was a pre-teen. Our family were early advocates for women and babies I have always been vehemently pro life. Help.
With the honorable exception of the Consistent Life Ethic folk, Trump has utterly corrupted the pro-life movement, teaching it to use the unborn as human shields for a host of evils you can easily name. Meanwhile he has raised abortion rates 30% after Obama/Biden brought them to their lowest point since Roe. And he has taught prolifers to turn a blind eye to that fact, while also teaching them to defend child rapists and cheer for kidnapping, felony, fraud, murder, the destruction of human life (including unborn human life) on a global scale whenever it gets in the way of MAGA power.
MAGA prolifers have sold their souls to the promise that Trump will magick abortion away by outlawing it while turning a blind eye to the reality that the most successful weapon against it is to attack demand, not supply, by attacking poverty. They have embraced sadistic racism, vengefulness and nihilist exercises of raw power in the hope that Trump will hand them all the kingdoms of the earth.
The only hope is to return to the gospel and stop treating Trump’s false religion of scapegoating cruelty as a replacement for the gospel.
In short, be more prolife, not less. Abandon the seductive lie that opposition to abortion taketh away the sins of the world and confers a 007 on anyone to commit or be an accomplice to whatever mortal sins Trump commands.

Yes, I totally agree with every single thing you say above and on this subject in general. I lived a big story back in the early days of the pro life movement that my parents would not recognize if they were alive. My daughters act like I am an apostate. I’m at my wits end. They are “kind” to me but talk down to me on this. Anyway, I guess I will need to suffer this for the kingdom of heaven on earth so that this scourge passes.
You are a good mama and a faithful daughter of God. Christ remains with you. May St. Monica pray with you for your girls till they wake up and figure out the con. You can continue to make clear your faith and your prolife convictions to them. Some Socratic questions from time to time might help. I assume they are full MAGA at the moment?
She replies:
Well, they aren’t even honest enough to be full MAGA which is worse almost. They keep saying “all politicians are corrupt” when I try to express my horror at what Trump is doing. They voted for him. Neither has expressed any remorse or concern about that. I am a much more “let’s encounter who Jesus sends me” kind of a person than I was 25 years ago. I was thinking I needed to keep my kids in a Catholic ghetto. They are now adults.
Your witness will make it hard to kick against the goads. Don’t despair. Keep loving them. They fear it’s a choice between supporting the Cult or being “godless babykillers”. It’s not. You will be sign that it is not. Keep going.

So-called “Pro Lifers” have made a Faustian bargain. In return for right wing (not real conservative) judges, they have supported people who hate the poor and exult the rich. They throw the poor off Medicaid, Food Stamps and other programs to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
The billionaires get richer,while the rest of us lose ground. They cloak this toxic philanthropy with the flag and religion.
The hatred of immigrants is palpable. MAGA people seem to delight in seeing immigrants beaten up, families separated and other atrocities. They consider themselves to be good Christians. Indeed, MAGA treats beating up immigrants as some sort of sacrament. This whole MAGA “religion” is a perversion of Christianity.
