Christian Nationalism is an antichrist religion straight from hell. Like all antichrist religion it uses a few trappings of Christian kitsch, whether of Greene’s evangelical flavor or the pomp, smells, and bells popular with Reactionary Catholic Holocaust Deniers or Orthodox worshippers of the Putin regime in order to sell that lie first attempted in the Temptation in the Wilderness:
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” (Mt 4:8–9)
The dream of Christian Nationalism (call it Nat-Cism for short) is that Jesus will bless our effort to create a regime of blood, law, force, fear, iron. It is the rejection of the cross and the pursuit of the One Ring.
The only thing accurate about this Nat-C from Georgia (who spreads anti-semitic lies and shared a stage with actual Nazi Nick Fuentes in April) is that she is indeed “proud”. That is the heart and soul of Christian (or any form of) Nationalism: the sin of Pride. The sin that made the devil the devil.
The distinction between Patriotism and Nationalism is the distinction between Love and the sin of Pride. A patriot who loves his country in a healthy way is simply somebody who loves his home. Healthy patriotism respects the love others feel for their homes too. But Nationalism is founded not on love of home, but on contempt for all other countries. It is essentially enmity because the sin of Pride is essentially enmity. It therefore cannot possibly be reconciled with the gospel.
That is why I say it is Satanic: it share essentially in the sin that made Satan Satan.
The irony here is that most people who call themselves “Satanists” don’t actually believe in the devil. They just like to use the whole “Prince of Darkness” aesthetic to mock and scare Christians, often because they have real and valid moral objections to people like this blaspheming enemy of God.
But I really do believe in the demonic and I know enough of the Christian faith to know that one of his principal temptations is to show us all the kingdoms of the earth and promise “All this will I give you if you will bow down and worship me”. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a devil worshipper, though she may surround herself with a lot of Christian kitsch. She places her soul and the souls of her dupes in grave danger. She is to be prayed for and fought as an enemy of Christ to protect her victims from her.
Would she were the only one. But she is no longer an outlier. This monstrously evil thing is now mainstream for millions of American Christians. It has killed before and done so in the millions. It will kill again if it gets the chance.
“… Beware, Venerable Brethren, of that growing abuse, in speech as in writing, of the name of God as though it were a meaningless label, to be affixed to any creation, more or less arbitrary, of human speculation. Use your influence on the Faithful, that they refuse to yield to this aberration. Our God is the Personal God, supernatural, omnipotent, infinitely perfect, one in the Trinity of Persons, tri-personal in the unity of divine essence, the Creator of all existence. Lord, King and ultimate Consummator of the history of the world, who will not, and cannot, tolerate a rival God by His side.
10. This God, this Sovereign Master, has issued commandments whose value is independent of time and space, country and race. As God’s sun shines on every human face so His law knows neither privilege nor exception. Rulers and subjects, crowned and uncrowned, rich and poor are equally subject to His word. From the fullness of the Creators’ right there naturally arises the fullness of His right to be obeyed by individuals and communities, whoever they are. This obedience permeates all branches of activity in which moral values claim harmony with the law of God, and pervades all integration of the ever-changing laws of man into the immutable laws of God.
11. None but superficial minds could stumble into concepts of a national God, of a national religion; or attempt to lock within the frontiers of a single people, within the narrow limits of a single race, God, the Creator of the universe, King and Legislator of all nations before whose immensity they are “as a drop of a bucket” (Isaiah xI, 15). …”—Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge
“… we need to clarify the essential difference between an unhealthy form of nationalism, which teaches contempt for other nations or cultures, and patriotism, which is a proper love of one’s country. True patriotism never seeks to advance the well-being of one’s own nation at the expense of others. For in the end this would harm one’s own nation as well: doing wrong damages both aggressor and victim. Nationalism, particularly in its most radical forms, is thus the antithesis of true patriotism, and today we must ensure that extreme nationalism does not continue to give rise to new forms of the aberrations of totalitarianism. This is a commitment which also holds true, obviously, in cases where religion itself is made the basis of nationalism, as unfortunately happens in certain manifestations of so-called “fundamentalism”.”—St. John Paul II

Excellent article. Mercifully we don’t have this problem in England but we do have hardline secularism
If I didn’t have friends and family here, I’d move there for the secularism by weeks end!
Really, how far is MTG Christian Nationalism from “God is the State, the State is God”? In which case they’re no better than Trotsky…
Did we not learn our lesson about theocracy from that whole Joan of Arc incident?
I can think of only two countries that have theocracies at the present: Iran and Afghanistan. And there’s another organization that wants to make a religious nationalist state: ISIS – Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Americans should really think deeply if they want a religious nationalist state.
Fear of God is a gift of the Holy Spirit. But the truth is, not everyone has it. MTG should consider herself blessed that she has it (or so she claims). But then if she really does have it, she should be treating leftists with compassion, understanding, and patience. Fear of God is a gift of the Holy Spirit – one does not make demands or claims of the Holy Spirit. So it is up to the Holy Spirit, not MTG, to bestow this gift onto the leftists. Instead of berating the leftists as being Godless, she should be praying that God bless the left. In the meantime, she should be demonstrating the Spirit’s transformative effect on her life by kindness, generosity, wisdom – indeed, all the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
So does MTG have this gift, or does she just have Pride (the sin) and presume to speak for and control the Holy Spirit? It is hard to read her heart, or the hearts of anyone for that matter. What we are all asked to do, including MTG, is examine our *own* consciences.
By making this gift into a political campaign, it just seems she is being very presumptious and prideful.
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” – Mt 12:31. We should pray for MTG.
