The Fan Mail Pours In!

One sample of why MAGA antichrist religion has trouble winning hearts and minds to whatever it is it is trying to sell in place of the gospel arrived in my comboxes a while back:

You’re a demonic ass who deserves to burn in hell. You’re a fucking shithead and spiteful moron. You’ll watch E Michael Jones and Bishop Strickland enter heaven as you sink into the flames in your eternal and stupid rage. You’re a covidiot fucktard godless effeminate loser. You’re also a malicious fraud, an occult worshipper of Talmudic Judaism, and a rejecter of Jesus Christ.

Strangely, after this strong effort at winning my soul, the author turned out to have written anonymously with a fake email, so that I could not write him back to say, “Your ideas intrigue me and you make a lot of sense. Please tell me more so that I can join your True Church and become just like you!” I’m now starting to wonder if he really cares about my soul at all! So disappointing!

Here’s the thing: Every time somebody rings the changes on “Mark Shea says he’s a Catholic, but secretly he believes….” my reply is, “Lemme stop you right there. There ain’t no ‘secretly’ about my beliefs. A guy whose blog tagline used to be ‘So that no thought of mine, no matter how stupid, will never go unpublished again!” believes nothing secretly. I have never been shy about stating what I think. Your imaginary construction of my ‘secret’ views is a product of your need to believe that you possess Gnostic Wisdom revealing the Hidden History of Our Time and enabling you to read the Secrets of Men’s Souls. It’s a method insecure and stupid people have used for time immemorial in order to maintain a feeling of control in a universe they are unable to cope with.”

I’m a Catholic. I believe the Creed. I did not join the Church as part of a vast conspiracy to undermine it, but because I think that what she believes, teaches, and proclaims is revealed by God. That’s it. That’s all.

Reactionaries spend all their fire accusing Normal Catholics of being Secret Enemies of the Faith because they know they can pose in the mirror as Defenders of the Faith while never ever having to risk actually suffering for the Faith. They cosplay as martyrs to cope with the fact that they are a) not persecuted like the global Church is and b) often the persecutors of the brown and the poor here on our soil.

  1. The fact that this person is doing this and believes that they’re glorifying God is very scary. Just like the Pharisees and other religious extremists. May God bless you brother.

  2. You would think that a fellow Christian would be charitable enough to consign you to a stint in Purgatory, instead of going straight to condemning you to an eternity in Hell. Talk about jumping the gun!

The most pathetic part of all this, is that I’m pretty sure his ire towards you has nothing to do with what you have criticized and everything to do with who you’re criticizing.

  3. It always amazes me that adult people would resort to middle-school rhetoric, and in writing no less. I can’t imagine that I would be upset if someone called me a “covidiot fucktard”. I have no idea what those words are supposed to mean, in the first place, and the rantings of the childish are more pathetic than anything else, in the second.

Sorry you have to go through it, all the same.

  4. It’s at least nice when they’re so clearly unhinged that their insults function more like affirmations than criticisms.
