C.S. Lewis remarks that the high water mark of the pursuit of magic was not the “Dark Ages” but the 16th century and it coincided with the rise of the Sciences for a very simple reason: both were attempts to control, exploit, and manipulate Nature for fun and profit. Magic died in the cradle and Science did not because Magic did not work and Science did, leading to cool stuff like this.
Our era, having benefited from the ease and comfort and power Science provided for us, has now bred a generation of people too lazy to bother learning out how Science works, which has in turn led to them embracing magical thinking where they use our global satellite network to publish Flat Earth theories on the web, kill themselves with “raw water” rather than get vaccinated, and hand the keys to the mightiest weapons systems ever built by technology to drunken morons convinced, on the basis of no science at all, that they are a Master Race who rule the world by virtue of their royal bloodline.
But the video is still extremely cool.
