I have been big a big fan of yours for more than 7 years now. My family on my Dads side is old school Catholic from Chicago (I’m 56). My aunt was an Adrian Dominican Nun who did mission trips & protested nuclear arms builders (ending up in jail for it.) I admire your philosophical insight & deep understanding of Catholic theology. In fact over the years I have taken my notebook & took extensive notes during many of your speeches or sermons, to use pieces of what you taught while framing my own essays on theological matters. Matters like the role of reason when understanding scripture. Understanding Dei Verbum. Understanding the Eucharist. Understanding creation, etc. The most recent one that I did this to, was a speech you gave about how to recognize evil.
But, (& I know that my thoughts are of little to no consequence to you) your seeming silence about & ingratiating yourself with the evil of Donald Trump has shaken me deeply causing me to wonder if I have been wrong about seeking guidance from you. BECAUSE, when I listed all of the things that YOU told me to look for in a person to determine whether they are evil, Donald Trump & the MAGA movement embodies a great many of those traits. Casual cruelty. Vindictiveness. Deliberately dividing the population. Utter disregard for the truth. Even worse using lies to harm others. A desire to control & dominate. A false piety focused on platitudes & performative displays. (Refer to his vulgar Easter greeting). Dishonesty in business dealings. Resorting to institutional violence as a means to control of any & all critics. Sexually predatory behavior. The list could go on for days, Bishop! Chaos & confusion occur with everything he comes in contact with. And his legacy is destruction & death for personal gain.
So my question to you is WHY have you not used your position to speak out against & identify evil when in it’s in your own yard?! The Pope does, why can’t you? Instead you have positioned yourself as an ally to hatred. Hatred of Muslims. Hatred of immigrants. Hatred of minorities by stripping away key elements of the Civil Rights movement.
I am having a terrible time
Trying to reconcile the 2 opposing aspects of your ministry. And wondering what YOUR motivation is? I love you Sir, I look up to you. I quote you often. So please help me to understand.
Do you NOT RECOGNIZE blatant evil when you see it? Or have you decided to overlook it for some greater reason that I can’t comprehend? If you could find some time in your busy schedule to reflect on this & write me back it would mean a great deal to me.

The good Bishop has sold out. His reward? Being named to various “commissions of religious freedom” populated by Evangelical con artists. He has no credibility.
