The Epitaph of the “Pro-life” Heresy in Two Images

(Note: This is grossly unfair to Evangelicals, by the way. Millions of MAGA Catholics also whored themselves out to this dimestore antichrist.)

A reader writes in response to the abject failure of the “pro-life” heresy:

At this point I am struggling to figure out if there are any born humans whose lives pro-lifers do care about. Because it’s not people susceptible to severe illness from COVID. It’s not immigrants, refugees, or those who try to defend them. It’s not the world’s poorest children who were fed and treated by USAID programs. It’s not disabled people who need the protection and assistance of the federal government to live and thrive. And it’s not American children who will die of previously eradicated diseases as herd immunity drops.

Whose lives, exactly, ARE they “pro”? It’s incredibly demoralizing to see.

In answer to your question: Their own, and a tiny circle of those they have granted empathy, including that entirely imaginary class they call “the unborn”. Not that the unborn don’t exist and should be protected. They do and they should. But for the “prolife” MAGA cult, the unborn are a sort of fantasy ideal who can be easily wielded against all those human lives they want to rob, harm, oppress, rape, deport, jail, and kill. They matter, not in themselves, but as human shields. And when real unborn children get in the way of MAGA appetites, they are as disposable as all other lives. As a pediatrician I know writes in response to the latest lie of the MAGA Cult:

The defining psychological trait of MAGA is a capacity for empathy that extends strictly to the Self and those regarded as extensions of the Self. All other human suffering is non-existent, contemptible, funny, and/or guilt manipulation. Dan Conway has, as a pediatrician, had to witness horrors that most of us cannot imagine.The “prolife” MAGA cultists who did their damnedest to spread the Pandemic with lies because they were too selfish to observe a few simple precautions, who insulted Holocaust victims comparing masks to yellow stars, and who murdered the unborn by exposing their mothers to COVID (among a million other victims in this, the most heavily struck first world nation), helped inflict those horrors and now they are persecuting the healers who tried to save their victims and, often, them as well. And, as their reward, they have gotten nothing, unless it is the pleasure of watching people they hate suffer more than they themselves and the few people they care about prosper.

To paraphase St. John, “If you do not love your neighbor whom you have seen, you do not love the unborn, whom you have not seen.”

As to your discouragement over the “prolife” heresy at work in the Church, the parable of the wheat and the weeds and the parable of the net are always true.

“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ” (Mt 13:24–30)

Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. (Mt 13:36–43)

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Mt 13:47–50)

It is a call to every disciple of Christ to live into him more and trust that he will answer our prayer for renewal.
