The more he abuses her, the more cravenly she abases herself and begs for more.

And in exchange, she urges him on to be his worst self, which is quite the challenge given how monstrous he already is. The grave danger, of course, is that she will urge him on to treat the entire world as he treats her.

But I think the sheer Gothic element of horror is lacking. OBSESSION and DRACULA are, like all horror, supposed to be moral cautionary tales. (Stephen King remarks that he sees himself standing in the tradition of great Puritan preachers like Jonathan “Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God” Edwards.) ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is funny and satirical (another form of moral preaching). But horror seems more like the genre Harp embodies. Not that horror can’t be hilarious too. See WIDOW’S BAY on Apple+ if you want one of the funniest horror series ever made. Equal parts creepy and side-splitting, not unlike the Trump administration.

It will be interesting to see if the raging misogyny of the Cult can endure it if Trump is perceived to be the puppet of (gasp!) a WOMAN. Josh Marshall remarks:

But the hard core misogynists stuck with him because he is a weak man’s idea of a Strong Man and a Strong Man like him is to be respected for relieving his desires on feminine prey, whatever their age. (Recall, the Cult wants to be him and raping young girls is something they’d like to get away with themselves: a fact attested by the endless torrent of arrests of MAGA predators.) So those who stuck with him see his ability to rape and get away with it as evidence of his genius and respect it. “Putting women in their place” is a huge draw for the Cult.

That is why the perception of him as a doddering old man manipulated by a mere “female” (the Cult loves calling women “females” as though they are fruit flies being sexed by a scientist in a lab) is something that makes the Cult uncomfortable in whole new ways. MAGA women burn with envy of Harp as a competitor. MAGA men seethe at the idea that she is calling the shots and telling this fading, dribbling, pants-pooping geezer what to do. This may peel off still more of the Cult.

At the same time, her absolutely sycophantic submission and lickspittle self-abasement may quell some of the masculine rage at her. She Assumes the Position so eagerly and cravenly that she may not set off the Uppity Female Alarms in the Incel breast.

Still and all, she still may fill the MAGA misogynist with loathing and terror. We’ll see. She certainly seems to be setting off alarms in the inner circles of leading MAGA predators at the White House. And they may in turn sic the MAGA rank and file on her.

If any of it harms the Cult and throws the GOP into more chaos, I’m good with it. I can’t see how her creepy relations with Trump harms Dem election chances. But I can see how Harp could orgasmically exult at the thought of her Master doing something insane in Iran to prove his manhood. God defend us through Christ our Lord!
