The realization that my kids came of age during Trump

And I can’t believe I’m saying that
He’s unleashed demons in our country mark
I really believe that
He revealed demons in our country. None of this is a surprise to Christ. Only to us. This is a moment the Divine Physician tells the patient he has cancer. But the Divine Physician intends our healing, not a death sentence. There remains hope.
The first step in the healing of any sin is the confrontation with reality. The Church in this country has been given a shocking wakeup call and we have spent the last decade in the “Oh SHIT!” phase of realizing how deep the problem is (particularly us comfortable white guys, you folk with brown skin were already perfectly familiar with some aspects of the crisis). There are all sorts of aspects of the crisis and the shocks and aftershocks of it have been ongoing. But there has also been real growth happening. It takes living things time to adapt and start creating immune systems and evolving structures to counter and even exploit the toxins they encounter. In the early Earth, oxygen was a highly toxic waste product. The bacteria that made it ruled the earth for millons of years, much as Trump (briefly) dominated and still is doing a lot of damage, not least to the Church through the anti-christ worshippers who do his work.
But eventually living things emerged that not only did not die from oxygen, but learned to exploit it. They turned catastrophe into life. It was one of countless parables of the thing God would do most fully in the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, when he embraced death to destroy death and took the greatest sin ever committed to make it the weapon by which he destroyed sin, hell, and death. He is going to do that again, because it is who he is and it is what he does.
God reveals sin in order to redeem it. That is always his intention. Our task is to cooperate with him, face it, repent it where we are participants, and have mercy on those who sin against us. It’s one step at a time our whole life long. Only he knows where this is going.
