Continuing my reading of Dickens’ classic through the Sundays of Advent, in which we recall that one of true meanings of Christmas is terrifying rich misers into paying their workers a living wage, because the Mother of God said, “He has cast down the mighty in their arrogance, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty” while her Son warned, “You cannot serve God and Mammon.”
