Is there POTENTIAL for fusion to be an energy source and possible solution to the world’s energy problems? Yes. The evidence for it rises over the horizon every day, travels across the sky, and sets in the west — and will continue to do so for a long, long time.
Have we humans figured out how to replicate that? Nope. Not yet anyway. But we are making progress.

It’s much too soon to declare fusion a failure. They achieved net energy at the reaction level, not at the overall input level.
There Is a LOT of work to do, and hurdles that may or may not be cleared.
It’s too soon to count on as a fast solution to climate change, but very much worth working on.
