As we saw yesterday, the Reactionary sect of MAGA Catholics–having abandoned hope in Christ and embraced the idea that the Church’s best days are to be found, not in eternity, but in an imaginary past when the Church was “great”–now see themselves as the saviors of the Church from the Pope, sent by God to “restore” the Church to an idyllic and wholly imaginary 13th century by driving out most of its members and driving away all who are not antiquarian weirdos with a fetish for Euro-culture and a strong white supremacist bent, seasoned with misogyny. Hence the continual drumbeat of the sect for the past decade is neatly summed up in the op-ed from a FOX Catholic:

This temptation to try to establish the kingdom of heaven on earth is not a new one in the Church’s history–or in American Catholic history. The desire to wrench the saving work of the Spirit out of the hands of Christ and get the job done via law, force, fear, blood, and iron was also attempted by celebrity right-wing demagogues–including a hugely popular Catholic priest–in the 30s and 40s here in the US:
And as the realization dawns on the MAGA “prolife” cult of death that only 13% of Americans share their fantasy of completely and outlawing abortion via draconian punishments against the women they used to lie that they care about…
the radicalized minority bent on creating the Holy American Empire are naturally attracted to the equally unreal fantasy that a fascist dictator wannabe is their best ticket to that goal. So the Francis-hating sect increasingly doubles down on the MAGA goal of destroying democracy for Jesus (just as Johnson did when she participated in January 6):
So committed is the “Prolife” MAGA Catholic cult to lawless authoritarian rule that it no longer even bats an eye when “prolife” Catholic thug Ron DeSantis pledged to institute vigilante death squads to murder people in cold blood without trial, all while hiding behind unborn to make this promise:
With the honorable exception of Consistent Life Ethic people, never ever ever does the MAGA “prolife” cult pause to ask, “Could it be that threatening to jail and execute post-abortive women, or destroy access to health care, or compel rape victims to embrace trauma, or deploy draconian travel restrictions on half the population, or impose a Christofascist military regime in order to get our way might, in some fashion understandable to Normals but invisible to us as clueless sociopaths unable to relate to humans, be a colossal hint that we are insane and repellent and have not the slightest idea how to make arguments by any means other than force, fear, and threats of violence?”
And that is why the MAGA “prolife” Cult of Death, having lied for years about everything from its commitment to the sanctity of human life to its fidelity to the Magisterium to its commitment to small government, has now mutated into a monstrous authoritariian Freak Show who theological leader wants a Church ruled by law, force, fear, blood and iron to arrest the Pope…
and passionately supports an all-powerful dictator who argue in court for the power to literally murder his political opponents:
