So consider the possibility that the call from the enemies of religious liberty is coming from inside the house and realize that, increasingly, the MAGA spirit of antichrist is emerging like the chestburster in ALIEN from the last gooey trappings of Christianesque piety it once used to disguise itself. It’s just a matter of time till the Christians who lied themselves into believing that Trump and his toadies gave a shit about them find themselves betrayed as he betrays everyone he no longer needs. It will be fascinating to see if MAGA Christians go on lying to themselves to preserve their pride from facing how desperately they have sinned or if they finally crack and say to the Father, “I have sinned against you.”

I suspect that Trump has nothing but contempt for his “base” the religious right. All the phony piety, the Evangelical Preachers invited to the White House to “pray.” But of course, actions speak louder than words and the actions are to cut Medicad, SNAP and other programs for the poor. Deport immigrants and generally treat the less fortunate badly. And of course, wrap this throwing the poor under the bus, with the flag and phony religious piety.
MAGA people have been bamboozled. Trump has great contempt for the working class in flyover country. They are easily conned. Tell them that they are the “real Americans,” throw them a few culture war bones, and they obey “Dear Leader.” They gulp the Kool Aid.
Will the religious right ever wake up? Some of them perhaps, but for many, they simply cannot admit that they have been bamboozled by an obvious con man. For a working class white guy in a dead end job, making $12/hr to endorse tax cuts for the rich is quite a con. Can he admit that he was scammed? We shall see.
I see it slightly differently. Just as love conquered the pagan Romans not violence or anything else, I think that love will conquer MAGA. And who better to assist in it then our Catholic leaders? Yea I admit it’s definitely hopeful and perhaps naive. But we just have to keep reminding our leaders of the perennial social teachings of the Church.

In a complete non-sequitur, I just saw something posted weeks ago on an instagram profile called @sacredchad:

The moment I saw it, my first thought was that people were moved by his his life’s witness and his death was, for them, a breaking point, a watershed, that may bring them to Christ.
Apparently, the viewpoint is that Francis was the thing holding people back from converting to Catholicism… By that logic, people who were moved by the death of Jesus, then by the witness of the Apostles, only joined the Church because they actually despised Jesus and could only join once He was no longer in the picture.
I have to admit that I have never hear of any of the four bishops you name as having been appointed to Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission. Please explain the errors or at least provide a link so I can educate myself.
