Yesterday we talked a bit about John 8:44

…and its relationship to the attempt to boast that your genetic heritage somehow confers on you a superiority over the rest of the herd of mankind. Jesus pointedly denies this by turning the appeal to your race or family into a damning confession that your true father is Satan. So he tell his countrymen who think descent from Abraham is a slam dunk assurance of their superiority:

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (Jn 8:44)

But the same can be said of anybody from any tribe or people–and most especially American white Christian Nationalists in this hour–who (like Satan) attempt to deny that everything they have and are is anything other than 100% the gift of God’s grace. Every attempt by a human being to declare that who and what they are is the fruit of their intrinsic awesomeness is an imitation of the fallen angel who rebelled against God and now seeks to be God. Pride, in short, is what made the devil the devil, and nationalism–and most especially Christian Nationalism–is straight from hell and built of lies.

The paradox of Satanic rebellion is that the rebel loses his grounding in God and therefore his grounding in the goods found in God such as truth, virtue, and goodness. And so, because the Christian Nationalist Cult of MAGA has, like Satan, no ideas or virtues it, like Satan, cannot even say to its victims “I’m as good as you.” Rather, like Satan, it can only lyingly accuse, “You’re as bad as me.”

Exhibit A:

This is a complete and utter lie. He never said it. But the Cult lyingly accused him of it anyway, because they are like their father the devil.

Exhibit B: A statue of Obama that he had nothing to do with erecting is just as bad as Trump’s Golden Idol of himself, worshipped by Christian Nationalist pastors. (And before the Cult denies it was worship, ask yourself, “Why was it dedicated, not by the artist, or golfers, or politicians, or family members, or just fans, but pastors?”)

Exhibit C: Hungarian-fascist-loving Rod Dreher reaches deep inside his own ass and pulls from it the amazing conclusion that progressives are to blame for Nazis like Fuentes.

Exhibit E: The Cultist who cannot speak about himself or his accomplishments, idea, or virtues but can only intone the mantra “But Biden”:
