What is both whiter and more fragile than a snowflake?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Elon Musk, making himself miserable over nothing.
Was this the face that launch’d a thousand fragile MAGA tweets and burnt the topless, towering egos of white supremacists?
I’m old enough to remember, like, eight years ago, when the exact same racist nerds and basement dwellers were mad at another great film she was in because Wakanda was not scientifically accurate in showing a vast technological civilization in Africa. They demanded Marvel return to strict white supremacist historical facts like Space Vikings and tried to gin up a boycott.
BLACK PANTHER went on to make a bajillion dollars anyway and was great fun. Nolan is a consistently great and interesting filmmaker. Nobody living in the Mediterranean basin 3000 years ago was what Elon Musk would consider “white”. And none of our highly modern racial categories existed for them. To be sure, there was ever so much slavery and oppression. But that was a function of class and conquest, not of skin color or ethnicity per se.
And, finally, complaining that an adaptation of THE ODYSSEY is not “historically accurate” or, still more, that it is “anti-white racism” because Helen is black is as dumb as complaining that real genies aren’t blue. It’s a mythic poem, not history, set in a world where skin color didn’t matter because everybody was some shade of brown or other. The “real” Helen was hatched from an egg after her father Zeus assumed the form of a swan and raped her mother. I know how highly the MAGA cult prizes rape, but there are limits to historical credulity.
And besides, none of the mouthbreathers in the MAGA cult have read–or likely could read–THE ODYSSEY. Musk, with the attention span of a fruit fly on ketamine in the midst of a sugar rush has never read or cared about it till five seconds ago when he decided to gin up a Panic du Jour among toothless hicks in wifebeater shirts who have never read it or anything else (except Trump’s tweets).

Musk is the richest man in the world, but that is not enough. He appears to be offended by so many things, such as casting in a movie. He seems to have a need to inflict himself on the American people regarding everything.
As Musk repeatedly displays his hair-trigger propensity to be offended, he simultaneously reveals his own deep insecurities and deeply human vulnerabilities. We’re all insecure. We’re all vulnerable. But his obscene wealth and control of media platforms that saturate our environment give him a cultural and political megaphone that magnify those insecurities. Perhaps he is a test for many of us to follow the difficult Gospels that ask us to pray for those who do harm.
Look up Elon’s Dad and who he got pregnant—Very Woody Allen ish behavior. This is the stuff that keeps stand up comedians in business. And don’t forget how Elon’s buddy Ep$tein got him to arrange for Elon’s ex sister-in-law to marry Epstein’s girlfriend so she could get US citizenship. She was the dentist at Zorro Ranch and got into dental school at Columbia because Epstein bribed them. These people are more rotten and perverse than the mob—but they operate like mob. I loved it when Pope Francis addressed the mob in Italy: “you’re going to hell.”
